From Heartbreak to Financial Success: The Journey of Coley B. Davis III

Client Centered

The journey began with a hard-earned $10,000.00 and a young man’s desire to build something greater.

At just 18 years old, Coley III had already developed a strong work ethic through years of demanding, blue-collar jobs. With discipline and determination, he saved diligently—only to realize that his money was sitting idle in the bank, earning a minimal, taxable return. Eager to make smarter financial decisions, he sought guidance from someone he believed to be a trustworthy financial advisor.

That decision, however, proved costly.

Unbeknownst to Coley, the individual was not a fiduciary or a true financial planner, but a licensed salesperson motivated by commissions. He placed Coley’s savings into an illiquid, unsuitable real estate investment. Within a year, the entire account had been depleted. Coley was left not only financially empty but emotionally devastated.

Yet that heartbreak marked the beginning of something far greater.

Determined never to be misled again, Coley committed himself to mastering the world of personal finance. He spent every spare moment reading books on budgeting, investing, tax planning, and wealth preservation. While earning his degree in Administration of Justice from San Diego State University, he chose to minor in finance—a decision that would alter the trajectory of his life.

Years later, as a respected law enforcement officer and the head detective of the Financial Crimes Unit in the National City Police Department, Coley built a reputation rooted in integrity, discipline, and an uncompromising pursuit of truth. His investigative work frequently involved uncovering fraud, theft, and financial misconduct—experiences that deepened both his understanding of complex financial systems and his passion for protecting others.

During his time as Head Detective, Coley was presented with an unexpected opportunity: part-time work with a firm in the financial services industry.  Despite the demands of his law enforcement role, he took on the additional responsibility—fueled by a strong desire to serve others.

This dual career path wasn’t easy—but it was a reflection of Coley’s work ethic, perseverance, and unwavering belief in his mission.  It demonstrated not only a tireless commitment to personal growth, but also a relentless pursuit of his passion: to help individuals and families take control of their financial lives.

When injuries sustained in the line of duty led to an honorable medical retirement, Coley faced a crossroads.  What many would have seen as a setback, he saw as an opportunity.

Combining his investigative acumen with his financial knowledge and unwavering commitment to service, Coley founded his own Financial Planning & Advisory Firm. Word of his expertise and trustworthiness quickly spread throughout the community. Clients from all walks of life, individuals, families, and business owners—began seeking his guidance on how to save, invest, and create generational wealth.

Over the years, his firm grew steadily, driven almost entirely by referrals and the results he delivered. But Coley’s vision extended beyond professional success; it was deeply personal. He made it a priority to educate his children, Tasha and Coley IV, instilling in them the principles of financial literacy, responsible money management, and service to others—values that had been modeled for them since childhood.

Throughout it all, the foundation of the family’s work remains deeply rooted in their faith.

Coley and his family view wealth not as a destination, but as a tool—a means to bless others, create opportunities, and give generously. Every client’s success story and every milestone achieved is, in their eyes, a reflection of divine grace.

“We thank the Lord for our success, because without Him, none of this would be possible. All glory be to God.”
